Rock Pool Jelly

This wonderful small world activity inspired by the rock pools in the story Clem and Crab, is a wonderful sensory experience for any toddler or child. Sensory play is wonderful for developing language skills, imagination and exposes them to new sensory experiences. This is a great activity if your toddler or child is a fussy eater and reluctant to try new foods. Read why we love sensory / messy play here. This small world activity is also a wonderful work out for little fingers.

My son and I love this activity. We laughed throughout and the language we were both using to describe the jelly was fabulous.

Set Up

To set this activity up my son and I started the afternoon before. Using the pebbles, gravel and shells from our June box we built a rock pool in a take away container. We added some plastic sea creatures from our toy bag.

For this take away container I used one sachet of gelatine and followed the instuctions on the back of the packet before by son poured the mixture into his rock pool. The rock pool went into the fridge overnight to set.

In the morning I just added some motor skills tools and a spoon and we were ready.

My son dived straight into this small world activity. He tried all the different tools I had put out and quickly decided the spoon was his best chance of getting the sea creatures out.

My son is vary of new sensory experiences and was reluctant to get his hands into the jelly but it wasn’t long before he was using his fingers to rescue the different sea creatures.

He enjoyed the activity so much he asked if we could put all the jelly and the sea creatures back and start again.
