Phonics Trees

Did you know that the majority of us are kinaesthetic and tactile learners? That means we learn best through activities which are multi-sensory and hands on. These activities encourage us to look, touch, discover and they spark curiosity. This autumnal phonics activity is a lovely way to teach letter sounds and can be adapted easily for all learners.

Set Up

On the paper leaves from our October Polar Bear , I wrote the three letter sounds we were focusing on. I drew three trees and added the relevant photos of each letter sound. These photos could be replaced with objects.

We then picked up each letter, looked at the letter together and I said the letter sound. It was then for my little boy to decide which person’s name begun with that letter sound.

As my son became more confident, I encouraged him to say the letter sound before he sorted onto the relevant tree.

Super simple phonic activity which we have left out for my son to revisit.
