Threading Pasta

A popular activity with toddlers; using things you would find in your cupboards at home. This is a great way to practice threading and working on hand eye coordination.

Set Up

For this activity I used Paccheri pasta and paper straws both from Sainsburys. The Paccheri pasta has a wide opening making it easier to thread onto the straws. The straws where secured into Playdough to keep them in place.

My mini human was immediately drawn to this activity. With some adult prompting he was able to thread the pasta onto the straws.

He initially only used one hand to complete the activity but independently soon realised that it would be quicker to thread the pasta onto the straws with two hands.

This activity was left out and my small human revisited it on several occasions throughout the afternoon. He needed me to just empty the straws of pasta every now and then. It even kept him occupied whilst I made dinner and was really quick and easy to tidy up.

To challenge an older toddler you could use BBQ skewers and Penne pasta.
