Play Dough Flowers
Play dough always makes a great fun motor skills activity that works on strengthening those little fingers and is often a great way to learn about something else too. After having made play dough vegetables for our garden as one of the activities from our August Gardening Activity Box my two were then keen to make some flowers too.
Set Up
I used the four different coloured play doughs from our August Gardening activity box and then just added a couple of flowers from the garden as inspiration and that was it! Ready to go!
The great thing about activities like this is there is no real right way for your children to do it. Whatever they decide to do will be their own great interpretation. And whatever they create they still be learning whilst doing it. F decided to use the green as the basis for her garden and then smoosh the other colours to be flowers on top. Whilst she played her hands were being strengthened by ripping and squashing play dough. Her language skills also got a work out as she constantly chatted through what she was doing!
M created different flowers and used different flower names to talk about what she had created: roses, daisies, tulips. I showed her a technique of flattening a sausage of play dough and rolling it to create a rose shape. She then busily created a bunch of flowers which she was very proud of. This activity kept them busy for quite some time and we now have some mixed up coloured play dough which I am sure we will find another use for!
