Knocking and Posting

This is simple baby activity which is quick to set up and can be enjoyed by all. If you have older sibling they can help rebuild the towers. All babies that I have known have enjoyed knocking things over and posting objects. My son continues to be a fan of both of these activities. I dread to think what is lurking under my fridge and cooker.

The red box was an old shoe box which I had in the cupboard. The red colour was a complete coincidence but works pretty well. I used a shoe box so that it was easy to get the blocks out again. I cut a rectangle shape out of the lid and it was ready to go. The wooden blocks are from Amazon and are great because they are so versatile and will grow with my son.

I built the blocks up onto different sized towers so that it would capture my son’s attention when he came down from his nap.

My little one needed no encouragement to knock down all the towers I had built. He took great pleasure in destroying each one and he was very methodical in his approach.

Next it was time to post the blocks into the box. Because I had cut the opening of the box into a rectangle my son had to problem solve how to get some of the blocks through the hole. When he solved it, he looked very proud of himself. Once my little one had posted some of the blocks he enjoyed tipping them all out again and I then rebuilt the towers for the activity to start again. He enjoyed the activity so much I lost count how many times we repeated this process.

If your baby is on the cusp of crawling, this is a great activity to encourage that movement. Seemingly small humans can not resist knocking a tower over.
