Fireworks with Salt

This fireworks art activity is also a great sensory play idea that works well with older babies, toddlers and older children. The only to be careful of is that your child does not eat the salt, or lick it off their fingers. Once they are out of the stage of putting everything in their mouth then this works well!

Fireworks Sensory Art

Set Up:

So for this fireworks, sensory art activity I used a tuff tray which makes the perfect backdrop for the night sky. I dyed the salt the day before using this food colouring with a small amount of water. I left them to dry overnight but they were slightly damp still. So I put them in the oven on the lowest setting and that worked well.

F was very keen to get started and couldn’t resist putting her fingers into the salt and swishing it around on the tray. She also enjoyed mixing the colours! M started off using just one finger to draw and make patterns in the salt. Once she discovered she could use the whole of her hand to give the firework a fantastic tail as it exploded through the sky she repeated this over and over again. This fireworks art activity was such a great sensory experience for them.

Sensory Art Activity Toddlers
Fireworks Motor Skills Activity for Kids

They both really enjoyed this fireworks, sensory art activity and I was impressed with the patterns and shapes they created. It is a fantastic activity for developing fine motor skills and early mark making and writing. Without the need for sitting down, with a pencil and paper which often is far from appealing for lots of children.
