The Snowy Day
This activity was a huge hit with my little boy. This simple and visually appealing small world activity is wonderful in developing those all important language skills.
Set up
For this activity I used the peg doll and the white moon dough from our January Snowy Day activity box. The back drop was from the previous activity from the same box and the stick was from a lockdown walk.
Whilst reading the story there were several words and phrases that my son loved, so we wrote them down so when we played we could use the words when retelling the story.
Moon dough has quite a strange texture and it took my son a bit of time to get use to. At first he insisted I moved the moon dough and touched it under his close direction. However…
…. his hands quickly went in and he created snowballs, a big ‘heaping mountain of snow’ for the peg doll to roll down, the peg doll was buried in the snow.
It was wonderful to watch my son retell the story and use all that wonderful language that runs throughout the book.
